He was the only child of his parents and a lonely child. He spent his entire school life without making a single friend. In college however just on the very first day, he met Amjad. They both had different subjects and studied in different lecture halls but they soon became fast friends.
They daily met in college cafeteria, spent spare time together, played xbox, went on drive together and even prepared for tests at the same place.
He knew everything about Amjad but had never been to his house. Amjad however visited him occasionally on weekends or holidays. They both enjoyed their time on sea view.
They have been friends now for an entire semester. Final exams were near and Amjad started coming to his home and helped him in his preparation for exams. He was surprised to see that Amjad knew everything about his subjects although he had different courses. He had recognized from the beginning that Amjad has a brilliant mind so he very often took his help.
Result was out. He had passed with very good marks. He was now checking Amjad's name in the list. There was lot of rush at notice board yet he scanned the list twice but could not find Amjad's name. Shockingly, he turned back and saw Amjad standing right behind him with an intriguing smile on his face. It sent chills down his spine.

Short Story by Nadeem Alam It was getting late at night and Adnan was not back from the office yet. I always wait for him to arrive, serve him hot food and then without much talking, we go to sleep. I was lying in my room and reading some book when I heard the door opening. I jumped out of the bed and rushed outside. There he was, placing his briefcase at table and looking tired as usual. Vladimir Anatoly was a famous Russian mountaineer. He was the first person to have scaled all top ten summits in the world. He was now looking to do something different and more challenging. Anatoly arranged his 30 th birthday party in his penthouse, which was in a posh locality near Red Square. He invited all his friends and few celebrities of Moscow to the party. Before cutting the cake, Anatoly made an announcement that hushed everyone. People knew that Anatoly is a stubborn person and that he would not listen to anyone so few of his friends appreciated him and the others felt sorry for him. Most women in the party were stunned with Anatoli’s plan. Next morning, headline in every newspaper in Russia read as: “Vladimir Anatoly plans to scale Mount Kaaf in search of mythical creature - fairy.” Some newspapers called it a crazy idea and some termed it as the last journey of Anatoly.
